In contrast, while a globe valve can indeed shut off flow completely, this is not its primary function and there are other valve types, such as gate valves, that perform this role more effectively. The design and mechanics of a globe valve do not lend themselves to supporting one-directional flow exclusively, which is typically managed by check valves.
